Kūkākūkā:Hoʻomana Mohameka
I don't know if this is the correct Hawaiian for "Islam"; I can't find the word in the dictionary. - 64.81.54.23 01:50, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)
My guess would be Ikalama - it follows better Hawai'ian "transliteration" rules (consonant clusters in English usually have 'synharmony' in Hawai'ian, ie for the soukoun consonant you use the same vowel as the next syllable), and transliterations are always based on English rather than other languages (thus a short "a", although it is long in Arabic).
Sounds like good reasoning to me. - 64.81.54.23
But why "Mohamaka"? English is /muhamId/ or /m@hamId/, right? - Mustafaa 02:44, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I've heard usually /moham@d/, /muhamad/, /mohamId/, /mohamEd/, and some people even prefer to pronounce it as in Arabic or Farsi. Also, the religions I /did/ find in the dictionary prefixed them all with "ho'omana" (religion), thus Ho'omana Buda (Buddhist religion), etc. and I'm guessing Ho'omana Ikalama too (but I may be wrong), see the way it is in the directory on the mainpage --Node ue 02:58, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)
From Arabic, it would be Muhameke... But who knows? - Mustafaa 03:10, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)
